Take My Money, Please
In the first months of the pandemic, I embarked on a 21-day secret giving project: find overlooked people in my community and thank them with cash. This would have been straightforward if I were the sort of person who comfortably approaches strangers. I am not that person.
The result is a collection of short essays about postal workers, teachers, sanitation workers, and the occasionally awkward business of pressing money into strangers’ hands. It is about gratitude, community, and what happens when good intentions have to survive contact with actual people.
A memoir in progress
I’m working on a memoir about the most unexpected pairing of my life: fighting a cancer diagnosis and running 26 marathons. The memoir is about illness, endurance, family, and overcoming adversity.
